The Great Saxophone Experience

The accent is on friendly mutual learning on Gerard’s and Neil’s popular course. You’ll play in ensembles ranging from quartets to a whole saxophone choir, and for additional help there will be masterclasses and technique clinics. No previous experience of ensemble playing is necessary, but pre-formed quartets are welcomed. Music is provided, but you can also bring your own.

and sociable course, now moved to a midweek slot and
given an extra day, designed for all players who are of
at least Grade 5 standard. We’ll play in large and small
ensembles, we’ll explore classical, jazz and rock music,
and there will be masterclasses and technique clinics.
You can bring any ensemble music that you might want
to work on with fellow course participants but Gerard
and Neil will also provide a wide selection of material
themselves.

The programme will have music influenced by dance rhythms of South American with works by Piazzolla,Celso Machado, Iain Ballamy, and Jaime Zenamon. The composers may not all be familiar but the styles will be. The Celtic inspired Shannon Suite by Ciaran Farrell contrasts with atmospheric pieces from Poland and Australia by Marek Pasieczny and Stuart Grennbaum. Jazz inspired works by Andy Scott and Ulrich Schultheiss complete the programme.

The beauty of the music is that it has been performed at The Wigmore Hall , London and the Sugar Club, Dublin.
